According to Ashwini Vaishnaw, union minister for communications, electronics and information technology (IT), the auction process for 5G airwaves is expected to be held in the second quarter of 2022. Moreover, 5G network rollouts are expected to begin once the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) finalises the necessary parameters following the consultation process.

Meanwhile, K. Rajaraman, secretary, Department of Telecommunications (DoT), has stated that 5G spectrum auctions are slated to be held in 2022.

Further, addressing the audience at a workshop titled ‘Exploring the Potential of Indian Telecom R&D Together’ organised by the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), Rajaraman added that the technology offers a great opportunity to tap the huge potential of home-grown technologies and expertise to transform India into an electronics manufacturing giant.
