According to a report by Counterpoint Research, the cumulative shipments of 5G smartphones is expected to cross the 100 million mark in the second quarter of 2023 and exceed the shipments of 4G smartphones by the end of the same year.

The availability of cheaper 5G chipsets from companies such as Qualcomm and MediaTek has enabled original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and commercial roll out of 5G services has contributed to increasing the demand for 5G smartphones.

The 5G smartphone shipments are estimated to have grown 81 per cent year-on-year in 2022.
