According to Juniper, 5G service revenues are expected to be over $65 billion ? representing seven per cent of telecom operator-billed service revenues by 2025 as against revenues of $100 million during the commercial launch of 5G services in its first year ? 2020.

Active 4G LTE connections will exceed three billion globally by 2020. As per Juniper, while the first commercial rolls outs are expected in 2020, widespread adoption will begin from 2025. At the same time, 5G will enable faster connections and act as a catalyst for a range of new consumer and enterprise experiences, including data intensive and energy efficient applications, high definition 4K-8K video, self-driving cars and advanced virtual reality.

Going forward, telecom operators will need to consider multiple service deployment scenarios to achieve an adequate return on Investment from their network and license investments. The investment in 5G research, trials and development over the next five years is pegged at $25 billion.
