As per industry sources, 5G deployment in India is expected to start from August-September, 2022 and is expected to connect 20-25 cities and towns by the end of 2022. Meanwhile, India is developing 4G and 5G stacks, and is set to bolster its position as a trusted source for the world.

Reportedly, nations are keen to give preference to 4G and 5G products and technologies being developed by India. 5G services will usher in high speeds, about 10 times faster than 4G, and spawn new-age offerings and business models. The government will auction about Rs 4.3 trillion worth of airwaves capable of offering 5G telecom services, including ultra-high-speed internet, and has also given its nod for setting up of captive 5G networks by the tech firms.

Moreover, the government is planning to bring legal changes and regulations to make social media platforms more accountable. Earlier in June 2022, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) circulated the new draft rules that proposes a government panel to hear user appeals against inaction on complaints made, or against content-related decisions taken by grievance officers of social media platforms. Currently, there is no appellate mechanism provided by intermediaries nor is there any credible self-regulatory mechanism in place. The government also expects to finalise new social media rules before July-end 2022 after extensive consultations.
