Mizoram has 54 villages without mobile or internet connectivity, information and communications technology (ICT) minister of Mizoram informed the state assembly, citing data from the Department of Telecommunications.
Replying to a question, the minister said that 21 of the 54 villages are currently uninhabited. He added that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is working to install mobile towers in 14 villages under the 4G saturation project.
Responding to supplementary queries, he said that the central government has drawn up a plan to ensure that all villages across the country have mobile and internet connectivity by 2029. He stated that BSNL is working in Mizoram to meet this target. He also said that the state government has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Bhashini app to include the Mizo language in the application developed by the central government.
