According to a report by IoT Analytics, there will be around 21.7 billion active connected devices globally at the end of 2020. Of this, around 54 per cent, i.e, 11.7 billion devices will be internet of things (IoT) device connections.

The report noted that despite the ongoing pandemic, the market for the IoT devices is continuing to grow.

In fact, 2020 is the first year wherein there are more IoT connections (connected cars, smart home devices, connected industrial equipment) than there are non-IoT connections (smartphones, laptops, and computers).

Keeping this growth in perspective, IoT Analytics has now predicted that the number of connected IoT devices in 2025 will be around 30.9 billion. In contrast, earlier in 2018, the firm had predicted that this number will be 21.5 billion.
