- The 4G-capable device base grew 1.5x between 2017 and 2018, driven by the availability of economical 4G devices from major OEMs and intense competition among telcos for a 4G market share. Reliance Jio’s entry in the handset market has led to the creation of a new category of devices “Fusion Phones”, feature phones with 4G capabilities.
- Growth in the 4G device base can be attributed to the migration of mobile users from 2G and 3G devices.
- 4G-capable device penetration reached more than 50 per cent at a pan-India level in 2018. Metros reported the highest penetration of 4G-capable devices at 65 per cent.
