45 million Windows Phone-based handsets will be utilised in 2013: ABI Research

According to ABI Research, 45 million Windows Phone-based handsets will be utilised in 2013, say news reports.

Moreover, the research firm is of the opinion that BlackBerry 10 will have an installed base of close to 20 million, while Microsoft will have 5.5 million Windows-powered tablets.

According to ABI Research, the global smartphone user base will total 1.4 billion by end-2013. 57 per cent of smartphones will run on the Android operating system and 21 per cent will function on the iOS operating system.

Meanwhile, 268 million tablets will be used, with 62 per cent of them functioning on the iOS platform and 28 per cent on the Android operating system. The annual growth rate compared to 2012 will touch 44 per cent for smartphones and 125 per cent for tablets.
