According to the report by Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA), the number of operators offering 4G mobile services increased by 36 per cent year-on-year in 2014. The number rose from 264 operators in 2013 to 360 operations in 2014. Further, around 44 per cent of these operators used spectrum in the 1800 MHz band for rolling out 4G services.

However, in India, the spectrum in the 1800 MHz band is primarily used by the telecom operators for 2G services. The Indian operators are using frequency airwaves in the 2300 MHz band for commercial 4G services.

Meanwhile, according to the report, about 91 operators launched 4G services in the 2600 MHz band globally in 2014, while 20 4G network launches were made in the 2300 MHz band.

In the near future, 611 operators across the world are likely to launch such services as they are currently investing in 4G networks.
