In a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that 42 internet exchanges (IX) of the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) are operational currently.
He also added that NIXI focuses on setting up new exchanges regularly including at Sify Data Centre, Visakhapatnam with 1 Gbps connectivity between Chennai and Vishakapatnam.
He expects the move to benefit the information technology (IT) sector, service sector, and society including concerned sectors in Visakhapatnam besides helping it to emerge as an IT hub.
