According to Infonetics Research, the 2G, 3G and 4G mobile infrastructure (macrocell) markets grew by 11 per cent on year-on-year (y-o-y) basis to reach $10.7 billion in the first quarter of 2014.
The key growth driver of mobile infrastructure markets was higher number of 4G network rollouts in China, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America.
The research firm states that for the quarter under review, the market for evolved packet core grew by 77 per cent and 129 per cent on quarter on quarter (q-o-q) and y-o-y basis. Meanwhile the market for evolved universal terrestrial radio access increased by 25 per cent sequentially and 81 per cent on y-o-y basis.
Further, the top five vendors in the 2G, 3G and 4G mobile infrastructure space in alphabetical order included Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia, and ZTE. Going forward, Infonetics Research expects the global long term evolution equipment market to grow at a 1 per cent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2013 to 2018 to reach $14 billion. In addition, the global 2G, 3G and 4G software revenue is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 8.7 per cent between 2013 and 2018.
