As per a new report by the Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA), 16 operators are investing in Voice over New Radio (VoNR) technology.
Out of these 16 operators, 8 are evaluating/testing/trailing, 3 are planning to deploy the technology, 3 are deploying the technology, one has soft-launched services and one is offering limited VoNR as part of a market trail of its new 5G standalone access network. 5G Standalone network require new approach. VoNR has been designed to tackle the issue of absence of a legacy infrastructure to fall back on.
In addition, 42 devices and 40 5G chipsets from four vendors (MediaTek, Qualcomm, Samsung and UNISOC) support VoNR technology. Of the 40 5G chipsets that have been announced, 5 are discrete modems and 35 are mobile processors and platforms. Of these, 36 are commercially available, including 4 discrete modems and 32 mobile processors and platforms
