BSNL has decided to lease out its passive infrastructure including towers – mainly to other telecom companies – in semi-urban (tier I and tier II) areas of the country. Aimed at generating more revenue and completely utilising its huge tower base, BSNL's plan is to lease out those towers with unutilised capacity to private operators on a bilateral basis. BSNL has over 60,000 towers, most of them in semi-urban areas where private operators have a relatively smaller footprint.
