The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has notified the management of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) that claims raised by them for their staff working in DoT offices on an 'informal' or 'loan' basis would not be considered without a proper sanction or approval.

DoT has asked both the telcos to withdraw such employees from the department. Further, DoT has written to its own field units and offices asking them to ensure that no such staff is retained unless on a deputation basis against sanctioned and vacant posts.

The move comes after BSNL and MTNL had approached DoT for payments and reimbursements for their staff that worked in the department on 'loan' basis.

As per industry sources, the claims made by the two telcos in this regard amounts to Rs 3 billion.
