Reliance Jio maintains lead over other telcos in terms of AGR in QE March 2019, says TRAI

Accrording to the Performance Indicator Report (PIR) for the quarter ended (QE) March 2019 released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Reliance Jio has maintained its lead over other telecom operators in terms of adjusted gross revenue (AGR). Jio reported an AGR of about Rs 98.39 billion during the quarter.

However, Vodafone Idea Limited, the country's largest telecom operator by subscriber base, recorded an AGR of Rs 71.33 billion while Bharti Airtel reported an AGR of Rs 59.2 billion during the QE March 2019.

Further, TRAI’s data showed that Jio’s AGR or earnings from mobile phone services rose by 3.76 per cent sequentially over the QE December 2018.

However, the quarter-on-quarter AGR growth for Jio during this year was lower than the 14.6 per cent rise it had experienced in the QE December 2018.

Meanwhile, TRAI’s PIR reported that the number of telephone subscribers in the country declined to 1,183.5 million during QE March 2019, a decline of 1.20 per cent over the QE December 2018, and 1.88 per cent over the QE March 2018. Further, the overall teledensity in India declined from 91.45 per cent in QE December 2018 to 90.11 per cent in QE March 2019.

However, the monthly average revenue per user (ARPU) for wireless services improved by 1.80 per cent and stood at Rs 71.39 in the QE March 2019 as against Rs 70.13 reported in the QE December 2018.

Further, the gross revenue (GR) and AGR of the telecom sector stood at Rs 584.14 billion and Rs 359.32 billion during the QE March 2019. The licence fee declined marginally to Rs 28.88 billion in the QE March 2019 from Rs 28.90 billion in the QE December 2018.
