Reliance Jio overtakes Airtel to become the second largest operator in India, by RMS

Reliance Jio replaced Airtel to become the second largest telecom operator in India by revenue market share (RMS) during the quarter ended March 2019.

As per the data reported by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Reliance Jio’s RMS stood at 31.7 per cent during January-March 2019, recording a 182 basis points sequential jump. On the other hand, Airtel’s RMS stood at 27.3 per cent, recording a fall of 285 basis points sequentially. Meanwhile, Vodafone Idea managed to secure the first position with RMS share of 32.2 per cent, recording an increase of 57 basis points sequentially.

While Reliance Jio recorded strong revenue growth across 21 circles and emerged as the leader in 15 markets, Bharti Airtel suffered sequential revenue declines in key markets such as Karnataka (-15 per cent), Tamil Nadu (-16 per cent), Delhi (- 33 per cent) and Andhra Pradesh (-8 per cent).
