The government will soon start providing digital health, education, skill development and financial services to villagers across the nation in under its ‘Digital Village’ initiative that would use broadband connectivity provided through BharatNet.

During the first three years, the government expects to provide services in over 700 villages, one in each district, before expanding it across the country.

Under the Digital Village initiative, common service centres (CSCs) would offer affordable Wi-Fi connectivity to villages to facilitate a service delivery ecosystem. The key provision under the project would be a portal for different educational courses in association with the National Institute for Electronics and IT (NIELIT) and Tally Solutions, an enterprise resource planning (ERP) software provider.

In the health arena, providing primary care to the general public and livestock in the villages via tele-consultation or video- conferencing for doctor’s advice on non-emergency medical problems etc will be given prime importance.

Further, under the skill services to be imparted, primary focus shall be laid on developing skills of automotive service technician, handset repair engineering, field technician for home appliances and electrical technician. Meanwhile, the Digital Village initiative would also focus on promoting renewable energy sources.
