As per industry sources, the 5G committee has asked the government to introduce flexible conditions for conducting 5G trials. This includes providing sufficient quantum and duration of spectrum, unified licence and single-window clearance.

The panel has also suggested that one year be kept as initial trial duration and that service providers should be enabled to conduct technology trials by overcoming the existing bottlenecks. Further, it has recommended the quantum of frequencies to be auctioned.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had recently formed a panel of experts, entrusted with the responsibility to give recommendations related to licensing as well as the quantum of airwaves among other aspects for offering experimental spectrum for carrying out 5G pilots.

Earlier in May 2019, the panel had submitted its recommendations which are soon expected to be taken up by the Digital Communications Commission (DCC).
