According to a note by the telecom ministry, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will soon start identifying and making accessible new spectrum bands for access and backhaul segments to ensure timely deployment and development of 5G networks.

Further, DoT will also make available harmonised and contiguous spectrum required for deploying next-generation access technologies, the note said.

Earlier, the telecom ministry’s 5G committee stated that about 6,000 MHz spectrum can be immediately made available for the rollout of 5G services. The panel had identified spectrum across 11 spectrum bands, of which four bands - premium 700 MHz band, 3.5 GHz band, 24 GHz band and 28 GHz band -- can be made immediately available for 5G services.
