India's internet user base has crossed the 500 million mark, says Kantar IMRB ICUBE

According to a report by Kantar IMRB ICUBE, India’s internet user base has crossed the 500 million mark and is likely to reach 627 million by end 2019.

As per the report estimates, there were 566 million internet users as of December 2018, recording an annual growth rate of 18 per cent.

The report further highlighted that 87 per cent of the total 493 million users in India are defined as regular users, having accessed the internet in the last 30 days. Of this, 293 million active internet users reside in urban India, while the remaining 200 million active users live in rural India. Also 97 per cent of users access the internet on their mobile device.

According to the report, digital adoption is now being propelled by rural India and figures show that it has registered 35 per cent growth in internet users over the past year. It is now estimated that there are 251 million internet users in rural India, and this is expected to reach 290 million by the end of 2019.
