Indian Telephone Industries (ITI) Limited has set up a new telecom testing facility in Bengaluru in collaboration with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to enable safety and security of telecom equipment in the country.

This is in sync with the recently launched National Digital Communications Policy that makes it mandatory to conduct proper testing, validation and security certification of various components of telecom network in an effort to secure them from internal and external threats. These labs have the capacity to test and certify the network elements as per national and international standards.

In totality four labs are being set up. Of these, the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)/ Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and Safety Lab have been commissioned by the Government.

The commercial services of the EMI/EMC testing facility and safety testing facility for pre-compliance and certification will commence from March 2019. The other two labs SAR Testing Lab and Telecom Security Testing Lab are expected to be operational from July 2019.
