Airtel uses LTE 900 to decongest 2G and 3G networks in ten circles

Bharti Airtel is using the 900 MHz spectrum or long term evolution (LTE) 900 technology to decongest its 2G and 3G networks and increase its voice over LTE (VoLTE) traffic across ten telecom circles in India. This technology would help in boosting the operator’s indoor network coverage and would also provide improved 4G services inside homes, offices and malls.

At present, the operator is working with Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei and ZTE to execute the deployment across Mumbai, Delhi, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kolkata, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, North East, Assam and Rajasthan.

Further, Airtel has liberalised the 900 MHz spectrum available in these markets and its deployment is aimed at creating a new 4G capacity.

The operator now uses 2300 MHz (TD LTE), 1800 MHz (FD LTE), and 900 MHz (LTE 900) spectrum to offer 4G services in the country.
