According to a study by International Data Corporation (IDC), Cisco Systems has secured the top position in India’s networking market during the third quarter of 2018, with a clear lead over competitors such as Nokia and Hewlett Packard Enterprise in the ethernet, router and wireless local area network (WLAN) segments.

Cisco held 65.7 per cent share in the ethernet switch market during the period under consideration. This was followed by Hewlett Packard Enterprise with 6.7 per cent share, Huawei with 3.3 per cent share and Nokia with 2.8 per cent share.

In addition, Cisco emerged as the leader in the router segment as well with 75 per cent share, followed by Nokia at 11.2 per cent, Huawei at7 per cent and Juniper at 5.5 per cent.

The study highlighted that Cisco has retained the top spot in the WLAN market with a 24.8 per cent market share during the period under consideration, followed by TP-Link at 17.3 per cent and Hewlett Packard Enterprise at 15.3 per cent.

According to IDC, software-defined networking solutions are expected to gain prominence as the enterprise infrastructure evolves from human-dependent systems to self-servicing, fully automated and seamlessly integrated systems. However, the firm believes that government and enterprise led digitalisation initiatives would be expected to drive growth across product categories.
