The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched a multi-band communication satellite, the GSAT-11, from the Kourou spaceport in French Guiana, France. The satellite weights around 5,854 kgs and comes with 32 and 8 transponders in the Ku and Ka band, respectively.

The GSAT-11 is a high-throughput satellite (HTS) and along with two smaller HTS satellites GSAT-19 and GSAT-29, it would offer satellite-based broadband services in rural and remote regions by using the efficient Ka frequency band.

According to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), the launch of GSAT-11 satellite will help in providing high-speed internet connectivity in the north eastern states and hilly regions of the country and will give a boost to the BharatNet initiative.
