The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is planning to appoint around 4-5 auditors to conduct the planned special audit of private telecom companies for the period between financial year 2012 and 2018.

Interested auditors that are empanelled under Comptroller and Auditor General of India can submit their bids by December 18, 2018. The appointment is likely to take place by end-December 2018.

The purpose of the audit is to check for any under-reporting of revenue by telecom companies. The audit process, which will begin in January 2019, is expected to get over by mid-2019.

Audits will be conducted for all large private telecom companies, including the ones that have announced an exit or are in the process of merging with other players.

Telecom service providers pay licence fees and spectrum usage charges to the government on the basis of their income.
