LTE to account for 81% of total mobile subscriptions by 2024, says Ericsson Mobility report

According to recently released Ericsson Mobility Report, long term evolution (LTE) subscriptions in India will grow from 350 million in 2018 (30 per cent of all mobile subscriptions), to 1.15 billion in 2024 (81 per cent of all mobile subscriptions), observing a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22 per cent. Meanwhile, India's total mobile subscriptions will grow from 1.2 billion in 2018 to 1.42 billion in 2024, observing a CAGR of 3 per cent.

India also recorded 31 million additions in mobile subscriptions in Q3 2018, the second highest number of net mobile subscription additions by a country. Globally, there were 120 million additions in mobile subscriptions in Q3 2018, with China adding 37 million and Indonesia adding 13 million new subscriptions.

The report further highlighted that the total mobile data traffic per month in India is expected to increase from 3 EB in 2018 to 12 EB in 2024, observing a fourfold growth. Also, the total smartphone subscriptions in the country will reach 1 billion by 2024, observing a CAGR of 10 per cent. The total mobile subscriptions in India are expected to grow from around 1.2 billion in 2018 to 1.42 billion in 2024, observing at CAGR of 3 per cent.

According to Ericsson, video will continue to drive data usage and monthly data usage per smartphone is expected to increase from 6.8 GB in 2018 to 15 GB by 2024, observing at CAGR of 14 per cent.
