Mobile component manufacturers to invest upto USD 2 billion by March 2019, says ICEA

According to the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA), investments made by mobile phone component makers are likely to reach up to USD 1.5-2 billion by March 2019. The ICEA also stated that the industry is aiming to increase the total number of mobile phone segment factories to 1,800 and generate around 5 million jobs by 2025.

As per ICEA, the unique number of factories in the segment has increased to 268 during the current financial year. Further, the employment in this segment has increased from 450,000 in 2017-18 to 670,000 during the same period.

Moreover, the data shared by the ICEA showed that mobile handset makers in the country have increased from 59 to 127, mobile phone battery units have increased from 20 to 65 and mobile charger units have increased from 27 to 130 between the previous year and the current financial year. ICEA data also showed 225 mobile phones worth Rs 1.32 trillion were manufactured in India in 2017.
