According to Gartner, India’s spending on information technology will increase from $83.6 billion in 2018 to $89.2 billion in 2019, observing a growth of 6.7 per cent.

This will be primarily driven by digital business transformation initiatives in both the public and private organisations. Further, 2019 will see increased adoption of cloud with the efforts of companies in the last two years coming to fruition.

As per Gartner, spending on PCs, tablets and mobile phones will increase to $33 billion in 2019, observing a growth of 7.4 per cent year on year (YoY). Also, increasing demand for quality mobile phones had led to the rising average selling price of mobile phones in India. This has made India the third-fastest device market growth after Indonesia and South Africa, Gartner said.

Gartner also observed that the software-as-a-service (SaaS) market is driving growth in almost all software segments in the country, and India’s customer relationship management SaaS market is among the fastest growing in the world.

The company is of the view that spending on IT services will record the highest growth with a 13.5 per cent increase YoY. This will be primarily driven by business process outsourcing (BPO) and consulting segments. It is expected that the BPO segment will be worth $1.7 billion in 2019, observing a growth rate of 18.5 per cent.
