RJIL market share increased to 20.8 per cent in August 2018, says report

According to a report, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited’s (RJIL’s) market share increased from 19.6 per cent in July 2018 to 20.8 per cent in August 2018.

Further, RJIL added the maximum number subscribers at 12.2 million. This was primarily driven by the launch of its 4G feature phone.

As per the report, the average revenue per user (ARPU) of incumbent telcos has taken a hit due to Jio’s aggressive marketing strategy over the past two years. At an ARPU of Rs 135, RJIL is an ‘outlier’ as this was the highest ARPU in the industry, the report said. The operator observed a minor decline from Rs 135 during April-July 2018 to Rs 131.7 during August-September 2018. Further, RJIL reported higher net income than its competitors at Rs 6.81 billion.

Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel observed an increase of 65.7 per cent to Rs 1.19 billion in net income during August-September 2018. However, its ARPU fell from Rs 142 during August-September 2017 to Rs 101 during August-September 2018, a decline of 29 per cent.
