Airtel offers highest 3G/4G download speeds while Idea leads in upload speeds, says OpenSignal report

According to a report by OpenSignal, Bharti Airtel recorded the highest download speeds in India for 3G and 4G combined at 7.53 Mbps, observing a growth of 25 per cent in the past six months. On the other hand, Reliance Jio, Vodafone, Idea and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) recorded speeds of 5.47 Mbps, 5.20 Mbps, 4.92 Mbps and 2.70 Mbps respectively. In terms of 4G download speeds only, Airtel led with 9.96 Mbps speed.

In terms of 3G and 4G upload speeds in India, Idea secured the top position with 2.88 Mbps speed. Idea’s upload speed was 15 per cent faster than Vodafone in 3G and 30 per cent faster in 4G. Vodafone, Airtel, Jio and BSNL recorded overall upload speeds of 2.31 Mbps, 1.90 Mbps, 1.58 Mbps and 0.76 Mbps respectively.

As per the report, Jio secured the top position in the latency experience segment with an average score of 72.2 milliseconds (ms). This was 8ms more than that of Vodafone. Vodafone’s 3G latency score was 101.70, while Airtel’s score was 123.99.

Jio secured the top position in all 22 telecoms circles scoring over 95 per cent in 4G availability measurements in all regions. Jio’s average 4G availability score across all 22 circles was 96.7 per cent. Idea’s score was over 80 per cent in 4G availability in three regions.

OpenSignal’s report included data from June 1, 2018 to August 29, 2018 with 10,509,371,943 measurements across 1,769,711 unique devices.
