Airtel increases its 4G footprint in Assam; the network now spans over 15,000 towns and villages
In a recent statement, Bharti Airtel has said that its 4G network now spans over 15,863 towns and villages in Assam providing service to over 8.4 million customers.
Earlier the operator had announced a network expansion drive in Assam.
At present, Airtel’s network covers 30,000 towns and villages representing approximately 94 per cent of the state’s population.
Also, as part of its acquisition of Telenor’s India operations, Airtel has added 6 MHz of spectrum in 1,800 MHz band in Assam.
Further, the telco is planning to roll out 6,000 new mobile sites across the region in financial year 2018-19. This will take the number of Airtel’s mobile sites across Assam and North East to 25,000, an increase of 31 per cent.
Airtel also plans to deploy 3,000 km of fresh optic fibre in the region to take its fibre footprint to 16,000 km.
