DoT exempts wireless devices operating on low frequency from licensing requirements

Wednesday, 10 October 2018

In a bid to promote ease of doing business, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has exempted wireless devices operating on low frequency range such as Bluetooth, wireless chargers, Internet of Things (IoT) products, medical devices among others from licensing requirement.

As a result, individuals or entities would not necessarily require a licence to establish, maintain, work, possess or deal in any wireless equipment for the purpose of usage of very low power radio frequency.

DoT’s move will give further impetus to the adoption of new technologies like IoT and machine-to-machine (M2M) communications.

According to India Cellular and Electronics Association, such a move by DoT would improve the ease of doing business substantially for mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, Wi-Fi devices, IoT products among others.
