Bharti Airtel is going to bolster its network infrastructure in the rural areas of Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Uttarakhand in order to expand high speed data and provide voice services. In this regard, the company is planning to deploy more than 17,000 new mobile sites with 6,650 km of fresh optic fibre.

After this deployment Airtel’s network in UP and Uttarakhand will grow by 40 per cent from 43,219 sites at the end of 2017-18 to 60,532 sites in 2018-19. The addition of fresh optic fiber would extend Airtel’s fiber backbone in the two states to 26,800 km in the region, supporting the growth of high speed data services in the region.

From the total of 17,313 new sites, about 10,138 will be rolled out in UP (East) while 7,175 sites will be deployed in UP (West) and Uttarakhand.

Commenting on the development, Shailendra Singh, Chief Executive Officer – UP & Uttarakhand, Bharti Airtel, said,“Keeping in mind the fast evolving usage habits of the new-age mobile internet user and the ever increasing smartphone penetration, we have committed ourselves towards the availability of best-in-class mobile data experience to our users in the progressive states of UP and Uttarakhand. We will continue to invest aggressively in the region and take our network capabilities to the next level, ably backed by a scaled up and strengthened infrastructure. As the leading mobile service provider in the country, we are glad that we are able to contribute significantly towards the Government’s vision of Digital India with our enhanced speeds, reach and coverage.”

Prior to this, the company successfully deployed more than 11,000 new sites during 2017-18 across the UP and Uttarakhand, thereby extending its mobile broadband footprint to 983 towns. Moreover, the addition of fresh optic fibre would extend Airtel’s optic fibre backbone in the two states to 26,800 km.
