ITI Limited bags two projects for BharatNet Phase II implementation in Maharashtra

ITI Limited has won two projects worth Rs 26.58 billion, issued as part of BharatNet Phase II by Maharashtra Information Technology Corporation. Approximately, 38,000 km of optical fibre cable (OFC) has to be laid to connect gram panchayats (GP) with blocks, district centres and state headquarters. The projects together will cover 18 districts, 110 talukas and 8,695 GPs.

ITI will have to undertake laying of underground and aerial OFC, including site survey, planning, procurement, design, implementation network at talukas and GPs as well as operation and maintenance of the network.

Other responsibilities include establishing radio connectivity for GPs that cannot be connected through fibre, implementation of horizontal connectivity to government premises, schools and primary healthcare centres.

Under BharatNet Phase II, MahaNet aims to digitally connect nearly 13,000 GPs through a mix of underground and aerial optical fibre cable. MahaNet is aiming to achieve this using Internet Protocol- Multiprotocol Label Switching (IP-MPLS) technology based products. In addition, extending broadband connectivity through wi-fi hotspots is also on the cards.
