Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) will be investing Rs 10 billion for setting up a Greenfield data centre in Kolkatas upcoming information technology (IT) hub. The proposed data centre would be the biggest in West Bengal.

RJIL has already given an application to the state government for 40 acres of prime land on long-term lease basis for setting up the proposed data centre.

Earlier, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) had committed to set up a data centre in the state during the Bengal Global Business Summit. Moreover, in January, 2018 he had stated that RIL would invest Rs 50 billion in West Bengal to bolster its telecom operations, digital ecosystem and the groups retail and fuel retail businesses.

Additionally, RIL would also be working with multiple partners to explore the setting up of state-of-the-art, next-gen electronics manufacturing facilities in order to make West Bengal an innovation hub for consumer devices.
