TRAI and Apple find middle ground over DND app dispute

August 08, 2018

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and Apple are likely to end their dispute over the latter’s reluctance to support the former’s do-not-disturb (DND) app on its devices.

The two parties have reached a middle ground wherein Apple has agreed to include about 75 per cent of the features of the DND app in its new operating system (OS) which will be launched in September 2018.

However, the company has stayed firm on its privacy policy, which doesn’t allow access to user call logs and messages. According to TRAI, the arrangement suits its needs as the new OS will allow subscribers to flag unwanted calls and messages, which is the whoe purpose of the DND app.

Earlier, TRAI had said that all handsets makers must support the DND app or else they’ll be barred by telcos after six months.
