TRAI recommends removal of obsolete services from Telecommunication Tariff Order

July 10, 2018

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has proposed the 64th Amendment to the Telecommunication Tariff Order, 1999 (TTO). The proposal includes a recommendation to remove those schedules from the TTO which are no longer relevant in modern times.

These services include radio paging service, telex and telegraph services and global mobile personal communication by satellite (GMPCS).

TRAI had set up a committee to identify redundant regulations that could be removed. The committee consisted of representatives from TRAI, telecom service providers, and industry associations.

The regulator has asked for comments on the draft amendment by July 26, 2018 and counter comments by August 6, 2018.
