JioGigaFiber expected to be a game changer and revolutionise the ICT sector, says COAI

July 06, 2018

Industry body Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has congratulated Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) for successfully garnering more than 200 million subscribers in a short span of time. Further, the COAI expects the launch of JioGigaFiber to revolutionise the information and communications technology (ICT) sector.

Commenting on the launch, Rajan S Mathews, Director General, COAI, said, “We expect JioGigaFiber to be a game changer and revolutionise the information and communications technology (ICT) sector and drive the Digital India vision. We expect the initiative to transform allied sectors such as the healthcare, education and agriculture in addition to the retail industry. The focus on agriculture, health and education is the need of the moment and will help prepare networks for offerings and use cases anticipated in 5G, which is a matter of high importance for the government. Comprehensive offerings by RJIL will thus touch every aspect of human life and will bring benefits of high-speed connectivity to the masses.”

COAI has further stated that the recent launches by RJIL have positioned the company as an extensive technology company rather than just a telecom service provider. Once the plans laid out start taking shape, new streams of revenue can be expected to benefit the industry. The industry body noted that, JioPhone 2 is expected to see increased uptake as it provides more features/apps and is very attractively priced.
