TRAI prescribes amendments to interconnect regulations

July 06, 2018

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued changes to the interconnect regulations by proposing amendments in the guidelines for an operator seeking fresh call connect ports from other telecom companies.

According to the Telecommunication Interconnection (Amendment) Regulations, 2018, TRAI has stated that a service provider can seek another operator for additional ports in case the projected utilisation of the capacity at the interconnect point increases 85 per cent over a 60-day period.

The time-frame for the provisioning of ports for initial interconnection of ports at points of interconnect (PoIs) has been increased to 42 working days. According to the TRAI, every operator will have to give a forecast of outgoing call traffic of busy hours for each interconnect point once every six months i.e. April 1 and October 1 each year  to the interconnecting service provider.
