Bharti Airtel plans network expansion in AP and Telangana; to deploy Massive MIMO

June 21, 2018

Bharti Airtel has announced its plans to install 15,000 new sites and lay 3,000 kms of optic fibre cable (OFC) across the states of Andhra Pradesh (AP) and Telengana in 2018-19.

Part of its network transformation program, Project Leap, this rollout plan will take Airtel’s services deeper into rural and unconnected areas. Bharti Airtel deployed 10,000 new sites and established its broadband network, which covers 85 per cent of the population in AP and Telengana in 2017-18. Of the total 354 census towns, its broadband network covers 331 census towns.

Airtel also plans to deploy pre-5G Massive multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) technology across business and residential hubs in the region. With the rollout, Bharti will be able to deliver fast data speeds despite the large number of users on the network at any venue round the clock.
