Airtel to spend Rs 240 billion in capex during 2018-19; will strive to lead 4G space

June 14, 2018

Bharti Airtel in its effort to stay ahead in the 4G game has planned Rs 240 billion worth capex during 2018-19. The operator had a capex of Rs 239.68 billion during 2017-18.

Airtel recently said that it will encourage customers to upgrade to 4G using its device partnerships and special offers. The company is also working towards retaining its customers by providing attractive postpaid offers and loyalty programs. Further, it will use micro -marketing to cover all markets.

Despite intense price aggression from new entrant Reliance Jio, Airtel managed to garner a revenue market share (RMS) of almost 32 per cent as of end-March, 2018. On the other hand, Jio's revenue market share widened to almost 20 per cent during the same period, Idea’s RMS slumped to 16.5 per cent, while Vodafone India’s share increased to 21 per cent.

With tariffs at an all time low and average revenue per user (ARPU) down by 20 per cent in the last few quarters, incumbents and Jio are battling out with exclusive content offers to bring data intensive users on board.
