TMA gears up to facilitate the 5G device ecosystem in India

June 14, 2018

Newly-formed The Mobile Association (TMA) along with smartphone companies is adopting an aggressive strategy to facilitate 5G-based device ecosystem in the run up to the new technology roll out by 2020.

In September 2017, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had formed a high-level 5G forum with representatives from Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and chairman of the Telecom Standard Development Organisation of India (TSDSI), Abhay Karandikar, to chalk out the 5G roadmap for India.

The group said that it has plans to do seminars and workshops to get the 5G ecosystem ready in line with the government’s ambition to launch ultra-high speed data services. It will be organising a day-long summit on the growth of mobile devices in the country on June 18, 2018.

TMA said it believes that by harnessing 5G capabilities, India can leapfrog in technological advancement and the new technology would also help new-age entrepreneurs to take advantage of high-speed data services which would also facilitate other industries. The 5G technology is also poised to accelerate the government's ambitious Digital India initiative.
