Bharti Airtel to add 7,000 mobile sites and 400 kms of OFC in Mumbai

June 08, 2018

Bharti Airtel will roll out 7,000 mobile sites and massive multiple input multiple output (MIMO) technology across Mumbai during 2018-19 to boost network capacity for high speed data and voice services. Further, the operator also plans to add 400 kms of optical fibre cable in the city.

With this rollout, the number of mobile sites in Mumbai will increase by 30 per cent, taking the total number of sites in the city to 27,000. Further, the laying of fresh OFC will take company’s total OFC network to 2,700 km.

The operator will also add an additional 10 MHz in the 2300 MHz band to further strengthen its 4G footprint. The company will undertake large scale deployments of the cutting-edge massive MIMO technology in key business and residential hubs across Mumbai. Massive MIMO expands network capacities by 5-7 times on the same spectrum, and delivers superfast data speeds even at densely crowded locations.
