ITI to carry out work on BharatNet Phase II after successful contribution to Phase I

June 05, 2018

After the successful contribution of ITI Limited to the BharatNet Phase I, the company has been awarded with one of the two packages to carry out work under Phase II of BharatNet.

ITI has won Package A of the tender, with a bid value of Rs 16.12 billion, floated by Gujarat Fiber Grid Network Limited (GFGNL). Package B has been bagged by the private broadband services provider GTPL Hathway Ltd.

ITI will be responsible for the supply of optical fibre, trenching and laying of fibre, extending broadband from State headquarters through optical transport network equipment up to the block level, and extending it from blocks to gram panchayats using optical line terminals (OLT) and optical network terminals (ONT). The project also involves setting up of a network management system (NMS) in Ahmadabad to manage networking and connecting the network to Bharat Broadband Network Limited’s network.

As part of BharatNet Phase II project, GFGNL aims to connect nearly 7,500 gram panchayats to blocks through underground optical fibre and extend broadband connectivity to all the gram panchayats using Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) and other suitable electronic equipment. It intends to enable the government to provide e-service and e-applications nationally.
