DoT and DIPP to urge states to ensure easy rollout of telecom infrastructure

May 29, 2018

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) will write to state governments to ensure effective implementation of right of way (RoW) rules and for lowering the cost of setting up network. This will be done as part of a joint exercise to improve ease of doing business in these states.

The DoT will also look into issues of high levies, taxation and faster generation of permits in the telecom sector, as envisaged in the new telecom policy.

The DIPP through Invest India will also ensure that targets are being met. Startups raised their issue before the government demanding that they should be given opportunity to participate in public projects. Startups also demanded that low-cost finance be made available to them and the government help to ease financial compliance rules.

The DIPP and DoT also discussed setting up of a committee for quicker clearing of permits under the new telecom policy, which looks at implementation, its success, timeframes and deliverables and ensure accountability from various government departments.
