5G mobile services to create $27 bn business opportunity for India by 2026, says Ericsson report

May 23, 2018

According to the Ericsson Mobility Report, 5G mobile services are expected to create business opportunities of over $27 billion for India by 2026. Of the total, $13 billion is the addressable revenue opportunity for mobile operators in the country. India is also expected to have over 10 million 5G subscriptions by 2023.

Telecom operators are currently recording an average top speed of around 22 Mbps on their 4G networks, while 5G services tests have recorded download speeds of over 1000 Mbps or 1 Gbps.

The biggest opportunity will be experienced in the manufacturing segment at $2.4 billion revenue. This will be followed by sectors like energy and utilities with potential of $2.1 billion revenue, public safety $1.6 billion and healthcare at $1.6 billion.

At present, Ericsson is doing massive MIMO trials with Indian telecom operators. This will help them to transition from 4G to 5G using the spectrum in which they are providing mobile services. All radio products within Ericsson Radio System delivered since 2015 support 5G new radio capability through remote software installation. It enables fast and smooth migration to 5G in existing bands.
