National Digital Communications Policy to be sent to Cabinet post public feedback

May 10, 2018

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) plans to take new guidelines of the National Digital Communications Policy 2018 to the Cabinet post May 25, 2018. It is currently awaiting a feedback from consumers on the draft proposal.

The National Telecom Policy that has been renamed to the National Digital Communications Policy demonstrates a framework which is oriented for digital infrastructure.

The draft norms propose the restructuring of the legal, licensing and regulatory framework that includes changes to the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885 to facilitate the deployment of advanced technologies.

Meanwhile, the Centre is also talking to state governments to onboard new policy initiatives.

The government has proposed a $100 billion investment target and 4 million new jobs by 2022, and aims to increase the contribution of digital communications to India’s gross domestic product (GDP) to 8 per cent. The government plans to deliver 100 Mbps of broadband to every citizen.
