TRAI considering penalising operators for not meeting QoS norms in QE Dec 2017

May 09, 2018

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is considering imposing penalty on operators who have not met the quality of service (QoS) norms for the quarter ended December 2017.

However, a final decision on the matter is yet to be taken. The more granular level of monitoring of call drop has resulted into significant action against the service providers for the quarter ended December 2017.

Earlier, the TRAI had issued showcause notices to various operators for specific circles for not meeting revised quality of service criteria. The assessment has been benchmarked to the new and more stringent call drop norms that came into effect from October 1, 2017.

The quarter ended December 2017 marked the first instance of companies reporting their network data under the new formula.
