Wednesday, 14 March 2018

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has asked some telecom operators to respond to the showcause notices for their failure to meet the new service quality norms on call drops, by end of this week.

According to the TRAI, the showcause notices have been issued for not meeting TRAIs revised quality of service in specific circles. The notice is based on network performance in the quarter ended December 2017. The new and more stringent call drop norms came into effect from October 1, 2017.

As per the new rules, operators can face a maximum penalty of Rs 1 million for call drops which will now be measured at mobile tower level instead of the telecom circle level.

The TRAI will decide on the necessary action within a month, post responses from operators are in. However, the TRAI has not disclosed the number of notices that have been issued.
