India keen on 5G collaborations to secure leadership position, says Manoj Sinha

March 07, 2018

According to Manoj Sinha, Minister of State of Communications and Railways, India is keen to collaborate with other nations on 5G to secure its position as a leader in refinement and adoption of 5G technology.

Sinha termed 5G as one of the most important emerging areas and said the country has taken steps to set up a test bed for this technology. The Union Budget 2018 has outlined the establishment of a 5G test bed in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai. This 5G test bed is also expected to serve as a key enabler for standards and devices needed for the rollout of 5G rollout. The budget has also outlined manufacturing of 5G equipment at the forefront of the government’s priorities.

The minister further stated that India is keen on collaborating with other nations that are engaged in this endeavour. He noted that the 5G push will be a catalyst for India’s Digital India mission. Earlier, the minister had also stated that India will not miss the 5G bus as had been the case with 2G, 3G and 4G.
